Description
The Opportunity:The Paralegal Team Leader is responsible for overseeing a professional-level team of paralegals, assisting with management-related activities for the Global Legal and Privacy group generally, ensuring high-quality legal support, efficient workflows, and consistent service delivery. This role includes people management responsibilities, operational leadership, and advanced paralegal experience to support attorneys, internal stakeholders and leadership within the Global Legal and Privacy group effectively. The Paralegal Team Leader will report directly to the Sr. Vice President of Global Legal and Privacy and will be accountable for ensuring business and group needs are met.
The Day-to-Day:
- Managerial responsibilities, including training, mentorship and development of the Paralegal team, ensuring effective working relationships and mentorships between paralegals and lawyers, and a collaborative team approach.
- Overseeing the development, refinement, execution, and reporting of initiatives, solutions, ongoing operations, and special projects assigned to them directly, the team, or direct reports.
- Drives business review, approval and adoption of workflow improvements, new processes, procedures and applicable technologies to solve, improve or create processes or programs.
- Collaborates with the Sr Vice President of Global Legal and Privacy to carry out similar activities with respect to the Legal team and/or the Global Legal and Privacy group in general.
- Undertaking some direct paralegal work to ensure understanding of the responsibilities of the Paralegal team as well as contributions to such responsibilities, including interacting with in-house lawyers regarding the area of responsibility.
- Applying sound judgment and experience to manage, execute and ensure accountability for all responsibilities of the Paralegal team.
- Staying current on all legal and privacy protocols, exercising professional judgment, critical thinking and necessary discretion for all legal and/or privacy matters.
- Creating and maintaining documents that could be a resource for the Paralegal team, Legal team, the Global Legal and Privacy group in general, and/or other departments working with these teams.
- Leading ad hoc projects assigned from time to time. Manages all phases of various projects from envisioning through deployment.
- Manages personnel, including hiring, performance management activities and/or termination responsibilities, as needed.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Previous managerial experience and strong leadership skills - at least 5 years of people management preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with various levels of management and employees
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to coach others on these skills
- Excellent problem solving, judgment and discretion
- Ability to effectively deal with complexity, ambiguity and nuances, and ability to coach others on how to do so
- Ability to analyze various situations, identify needs, and design effective solutions
- Ability to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and effectiveness
- Ability to understand corporate goals and set group goals and objectives
- Highly intelligent, intellectual curiosity and a high aptitude for learning new areas
- Self-motivated, a self-starter and proactive
- Highly dependable and reliable
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Prior paralegal or legal experience a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, in particular high proficiency in Microsoft Word
