Description
The Executive Director (ED) plans, executes, and monitors the all programs of WCM; provides advice and consultation to the WCM Board of Directors; oversees strategic programming and organizational development, and manages staff and volunteers (classroom coordinators, coaches, intern). The ED publicly represents the organization to stakeholders, partners, and other interested parties. Other key duties include fundraising, communications, outreach, and coach recruitment/training. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Requirements
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Administration and Management
*Create and maintain annual coaching schedule in collaboration with county-based, in-classroom coordinators
*Supervise coordinators
*Help recruit, train, supervise volunteers in collaboration with coordinators
*Evaluate coaching sessions for problems and successes, and determine the value of continued coaching in specific settings in collaboration with coordinators
*Manage Google Drive for internal communications with board and staff
*Partner with the Treasurer and contracted bookkeeper to develop and present quarterly financial reports to the Board of Directors
*Pay bills and keep all financial records including bank statements, receipts, and invoices as directed by the Treasurer (including electronic archiving systems as viable)
*Distribute and file the Secretary’s minutes of the Board of Directors’ meetings
*Support quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors by working with the President to develop the agenda and relevant reports
Strategic Planning and Program Development
*In conjunction with the Board of Directors, develop long-term strategic plans for program expansion to additional school districts, schools, and grades
*Maintain working relationships with district and school administration officials
*Work with Board of Directors to develop program enhancements such as continuing education for coaches
*Develop and maintain relationships with higher education institutions as appropriate, including potential research projects which advance WCM’s mission
*Represent WCM when needed at school district and other events
Fundraising
*Research and write grants for funding
*Maintain and build WCM’s donor database to increase private donations
*Continue to build WCM’s corporate sponsor relationships
*Promote WCM within the community through press releases to media and presentations to public service organizations
Communications
*Develop promotional materials
*Create and manage content on social media accounts
*Create and distribute monthly newsletter
*Manage website content
Recruiting and Training Coaches
*Recruit coaches through media, community outreach in collaboration with coordinators
*Oversee the process to approve prospective new coaches, including name-based background checks
*Schedule, plan, advertise, supervise, and participate in training sessions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
*Bachelor’s degree in Education, Writing, or a related field
*Proficiency in electronic communications and standard software (e.g. Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Google Drive)
*Strong verbal and written communication skills
*Management experience and skills related to planning, organization, and program implementation
*Administrative experience and background, including creative approaches to administrative challenges
*Ability to juggle competing tasks, set and meet deadlines, and balance multiple priorities
*Keen attention to detail across multiple projects
*Experience developing and meeting annual budgets
*Fundraising experience
*Ability to develop and maintain relationships with partners, volunteers, members of the public, and board members
*Knowledge of education systems, curricula, standards, pedagogy, rubrics, etc.
*Nonprofit management experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
*Master’s degree in Education, Writing, or a related field
*Strategic planning experience
*Volunteer management experience
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The WCM Board of Directors establishes overall objectives. The Board of Directors and the Executive Director (ED) develop projects, priorities, and deadlines. The ED independently plans and carries out the work, coordinates work with stakeholders, resolves issues, and keeps the Board of Directors informed of far-reaching implications. The Board of Directors conducts an annual review of the ED regarding overall work and program implementation.
COMPLEXITY
This position is complex, and requires a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and problem-solving ability. The work is often complicated by the need to consider and evaluate the impact of curriculum changes, changes in funding sources, and long-range program goals and objectives. This is a self-directed position that requires strong organizational skills, as well as management of volunteers and staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is mostly sedentary; however, the executive director is frequently required to visit schools and other public buildings for scheduling, coordinating, recruiting, and training purposes which may involve walking, standing, bending, or carrying light items.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed from a variety of places, including the executive director’s home office, school classrooms, and other public meeting places. The position requires travel approximately once or every other month to programmatic sites in western Montana and inquiries into other areas of the state.
